UPDATE: My Chemical Romance have recruited stickman Jarrod Alexander (Death by Stereo, the Suicide File) as a last minute replacement after firing their old drummer, Michael Pedicone, for stealing from the band. It's unclear if Alexander will stay on for the remainder of the band's tour with Blink-182. Meanwhile, Pedicone has spoken out about the incident via Twitter. "What happened is more complicated than it sounds but I did make a mistake," he said. "It was never my intention to hurt this band or all of you. It was an error in judgement based on a whole other situation that's way deeper but this does not define me."
If there's one thing My Chemical Romance doesn't tolerate, it's thievery. According to a statement posted yesterday (Sept. 2) on its website, the New Jersey goth-punk outfit has fired drummer Michael Pedicone for attempting to rip off his band mates.
"Some s--- happened last night and before the blogosphere gets all crazy with false statements and ridiculous opinions we want the true story to come from us... " the statement reads. "But please listen close because this is the only time we are ever going to talk about this. The relationship between My Chemical Romance and Michael Pedicone is over. He was caught red handed stealing from the band and confessed to police after our show last night in Auburn, Washington. We are heartbroken and sick to our stomachs over this entire situation."
Pedicone joined the band as a touring timekeeper late last year. While his bad behavior has cost him a job, it seems he won't be facing any jail time.
"The band has no intention of pressing charges or taking this matter any further than we have to," the statement continues. "We just want him out of our lives. The people who play in this band are a family, and family should not take advantage of each other like he did."
The band said it hopes to have a replacement in place by this evening, when it performs in Salt Lake City, Utah.
